Description

The Kermes oak is a very bushy shrub, that can be recognised by its small, thorny leaves which scratch the legs of walkers! It is found everywhere in the National Park where it adjusts to the most arid terrain thanks to its extensive root system. In addition to allowing the shrub to dig deep down for water, these encourage rapid regrowth following a fire.

Generally the Kermes oak grows as a low, dense shrub but may, occasionally if conditions permit, grow more than two metres tall.
