Description
Plantago subulata has awl shaped leaves and grows in small cushions on rocks by the sea. The ends of its slender leaves are spiky. In spring, ears of minuscule flowers with sulphur-yellow stamines bloom from the its stems.
The populations of plantago subulata on the Marseille coast are the only ones in the Bouches-du-Rhône!

Being a fragile species, the plantago subulata receives the utmost attention! A programme to save it and to boost the species, funded by the European Union, has been launched. In particular, 530 new plantago subulata plants will be planted!
